James Fishback, CEO of Azoria, said again that he was optimistic about the possibility of giving US people a $5,000 dividend cheque. In an interview with Chris Cuomo, he said that he met with lawmakers at the Capitol and got “overwhelmingly positive support” for the idea. He said, “I think it will happen,” noting support from people like Elon Musk and Donald Trump.
The project aims to give some of the money that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is run by Musk, saves back to the people. Fishback says that since taxes pay for 70% of state spending, it is fair to give people money back when “waste or misuse of funds” is found. According to how it was originally planned, the program would not lead to a deficit.
What does DOGE have to do with giving you $5,000 checks?
Musk linked the stimulus check to cutting waste in government spending at a rally in Wisconsin: “If we cut waste, there will be resources to give back.” Kevin Hassett, who used to be the head of the National Economic Council, also supported the bill. Fishback also said that this method avoids sending money to “cover bills with Beijing,” which puts local people first.
Concerning the possibility of success, Fishback stressed that the $130 billion in savings stated by DOGE up until March would be enough to pay for the dividend. Musk replied to the idea on social media, “I will talk to the president about it.” Trump, for his part, said in February that he would look at the plan, but he hasn’t said anything new since then.
The plan is different from the COVID checks, which made the bill bigger. Fishback made it clear that this rebate would only help “tax-paying property owners,” not people who use inflationary methods. But some people don’t think it’s possible to save $1 trillion, which is what DOGE wants to do to lower the debt.
Congress has not passed any specific resolutions, even though Fishback says he has “unique information” from his meetings at the Capitol. The plan needs to be approved by the legislature, and Trump hasn’t said when or who will be able to participate. Musk said in an interview with FOX News that DOGE has made a lot of progress, but that “there is still a lot of work to be done.”
Even with all the claims and versions, there is still no solid information. The only thing that is known for sure is that checks for $5,000 will be sent to each eligible family. Fishback says that payments will be merged once the projected savings for DOGE are reached. It’s not clear why that number was reached, but the final amount could be different if Congress and the White House can agree on something.
