According to the California Highway Patrol, a driver was seriously injured Saturday evening after colliding with a stopped commercial truck on Highway 99’s southbound shoulder near Fresno Street.
A large rig with mechanical problems had pulled over to the side of the road when a Ford Taurus, reportedly driving carelessly on the shoulder, smashed into the back of the trailer at high speed.
The Taurus suffered considerable damage. The driver, who had not worn a seatbelt, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
“Our hearts go out to the injured driver,” the California Highway Patrol said in a statement. “This incident serves as a stark reminder that excessive speed and reckless behavior can have devastating consequences.”
The CHP reminded drivers to follow traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving, and always wear seat belts.
