Family Hit by Speeding Car in Norristown; Father Dead, Mother and Child Injured

An investigation is underway following a fatal crash in Norristown.

“I was just coming up the street when I heard the impact, yeah, it was crazy,” said Norristown resident Robert Young.

According to investigators, a family of three was crossing the intersection of Dekalb and Basin Streets shortly after 11 a.m. when a speeding driver collided with their car.

“You could hear a screeching that sounded like brakes, and then you heard the accident,” said Norristown resident Shawn Williams.

The father of the family was pronounced dead on the scene.

“I was in tears,” Williams explained.

The mother was rushed to Temple Hospital. Their child was taken to the CHOP.

“Unfortunately, you’re going and this happens, and that kid doesn’t have a father anymore,” said Norristown resident Brenae Austin.

The driver who collided with the family was also taken to the hospital. It’s unclear what charges they could face.

“And it’s only 25 mph. I know they think of 202 as a highway, but it’s not. Kids go up and down here all the time,” said Robert Young of Norristown.

Only a few hours later, shortly before 5 p.m., another crash occurred at the same intersection. We saw an ambulance and police arrive. Neighbors claim that this road is dangerous.

“Dekalb street is very crazy at this intersection, especially since people are always drag racing and nobody stops at stop signs,” said Dawn Lawrence of Norristown.

“People who are thinking about driving up Dekalb street slow down there’s no where to go that fast,” according to Williams.

Police are still investigating both crash scenes. In the meantime, neighbors are hoping that people will slow down.
