A man was critically hurt in a crash near Harvard, Illinois, northwest of Chicago, on Sunday afternoon.
At 2:37 p.m., the Harvard Fire Protection District was dispatched to Route 173 and Crowley Road in unincorporated Harvard for a collision with entrapment.
A sport utility vehicle crashed into a Walmart semi-trailer truck, pinning the driver inside.
According to the fire protection department, first responders discovered that the SUV involved in the incident had veered off the route and come to rest in a forested area. Firefighters extricated the motorist and requested assistance from a medical helicopter and another fire protection district.
In less than ten minutes, the man was extricated from the SUV and taken to a medical chopper. He was sent to Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford with significant injuries.
The woman driving the truck was not hurt.
The route was stopped for almost two hours following the incident. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
