Authorities say a 21-year-old motorcyclist died and another was injured after being hit by a wrong-way driver on a Tulsa highway Sunday night.
According to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol collision report, the collision occurred around 9:10 p.m. on Interstate 444 near South Denver Avenue in Tulsa. Troopers reported that a Chevrolet Silverado was going east in the interstate’s westbound lanes when it collided with two motorbikes.
One of the riders was pronounced dead on the spot, while the other was transported to a Tulsa hospital. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol identified the deceased biker as Carlos Arteaga of Broken Arrow.
Troopers said the man who caused the incident is suspected of driving under the influence. While authorities did not specify whether the motorist was detained, the collision report does state that he was transported to a Tulsa hospital by a trooper before being medically cleared.
