Las Vegas Woman Jailed After Dog Found Dead in Outdoor Crate During Heatwave

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a Nevada lady was jailed after her dog died as a result of the severe heat while kept outside in a box.

At at 2:02 p.m. on Saturday, police received a call for help from Clark County Animal Protection Services regarding “a dog who was deceased at a residence” in Las Vegas, according to a statement released on Sunday.

Once on the scene, animal cruelty investigators took over the investigation, establishing that the dog had been locked in a crate and left outside in the intense heat for hours by the owner, according to police.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in Las Vegas hit 105 degrees Fahrenheit on Saturday, prompting officials to advise owners to keep their pets indoors and away from the extreme heat.

The owner, Olivia Underwood, 30, was arrested for deliberate or malicious abuse, maiming, or killing a dog and put into the Clark County Detention Center, according to authorities.

It is unclear whether Underwood is still in custody.
