Man Who Hit Teen During Bikefest and Fled Sentenced to Over 7 Years in Prison

The guy accused of hitting a 16-year-old with his motorbike before fleeing the scene and critically injuring the boy during last year’s Bikefest has been sentenced.

Michael Schneider, 52, is expected to spend more than seven years in prison.

Schneider was speeding south on Philadelphia Ave on September 13, 2024, when he collided with Tyler Walsh, 16, who was crossing in a marked crosswalk. Schneider, of Ballston Spa, New York, then lost control of his motorbike, crashing into a parked automobile. Schneider then fled the scene, according to authorities.

According to police, he was apprehended in West Ocean City.

Tyler Walsh was a junior at Stephen Decatur High School when the tragedy occurred. He was initially described as in critical condition. One of his closest friends later told WBOC that he was growing “better and better.”

The tragedy generated debate in Worcester County about whether Bike Week should continue.

According to court documents, Schneider entered an Alford plea to two of the 10 accusations against him on June 3, 2025. Alford pleas are entered when a suspect accepts a punishment but does not admit guilt. Schneider was found guilty of causing life-threatening injuries with a vehicle while under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident with reasonable knowledge that a serious injury had occurred.

Schneider was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but seven and a half suspended, Worcester County State’s Attorney Kris Heiser confirmed to WBOC on Tuesday. Schneider will then face five years on probation, according to court records.
