20 Hospitalized After Bus and Pickup Collide Near HNL Airport on H-1 Freeway

On Wednesday, a city bus and a pickup vehicle collided near Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, injuring more than a dozen people.

At roughly 5:28 a.m., first responders arrived on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound lane, near the airport exit ramp.

According to EMS, 20 persons needed medical assistance and were sent to the hospital with minor or serious injuries.

It is unclear how many of those injured were on the bus or in the automobile.

The Honolulu Fire Department, Honolulu Police Department, and Emergency Medical Services each had multiple units on the site.

A total of 17 Honolulu EMS resources were dispatched, including several transport ambulances, field supervisors, and the department’s Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) truck.

HPD reopened all lanes of traffic on the H-1 expressway just after 7:30 a.m.

An investigation is ongoing.
