22-year-old Charged in Grisly Warren Murder After Body Found With Neck Slashed

A 22-year-old guy is in jail in connection with the discovery of a dead body in a Warren home. He appeared before a judge this week to determine his fate.

“Unfortunately, these situations should not happen at all. “The reason this happens is, well, violence,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido.

The murder occurred last Saturday in a peaceful Warren neighbourhood.

“You know this is isolated,” he continued. “People don’t slit each other’s throats out there. When something like this happens, we have to rewind, recoil, and determine what caused it.”

Lucido stated that police and first responders were dispatched to a home on Leonard Avenue near Schoenner.

Officers arrived to find 22-year-old suspect Travis James Holburg standing in the driveway.

When officials entered the property, they discovered a deceased guy in his 30s with injuries to his body and a huge cut across his neck.

“The fact that a bunch of weapons were found as a result – the knives, and he made some admissions,” Lucido told the audience. “All of this here points to what caused it? Was there a fight? We had one over a taco in a refrigerator, for Christ’s sake.”

Lucido says that the suspect and victim knew one another. He said detectives are looking into what happened and who phoned 911.

“There’s a lot of facts that will come out as a result,” he told reporters. “You know, if there’s a weapon involved, everyone claims it’s a mental health issue until someone is killed.

“It’s interesting is it really a mental health issue or is it felons that are playing with weapons?”

Holdburg was arraigned on Tuesday and charged with second-degree murder.

His preliminary hearing is slated for June 17.
