Body Found Burned Near Michigan Truck Crash — Authorities Say Incident is ‘Suspicious’

A body was discovered charred near a traffic accident in Ann Arbor Township, and detectives are working to put together what happened. Deputies from Washtenaw County responded to what appeared to be a regular single-vehicle crash shortly after 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

A semi-truck cab skidded off the road and crashed, but it was the fire in the distance that led them to locate a charred man’s body with no indication of the driver.

“I think it’s a suspicious incident,” stated Washtenaw County Sheriff Eugene Rush.

Hilary Golston, Have you seen something similar in your career?”

“Not in my career,” he stated.

The peculiar combination of circumstances occurred on Whitmore Lake, near Dhu Varren.

“We know that witnesses passing by saw the truck on the side of the road then they saw flames at the top of the hill,” Rush stated in response.

Following the flames, deputies discovered a man who had been burned to death. Rush says it’s unclear whether the burnt body was the driver.

According to officials, the victim was recovered up the hill, around 25-30 yards from the crash.

Questions linger, such as the man’s name and what killed him. It is also uncertain whether an accelerator was employed.
