Miami police are investigating a double shooting that resulted in one death Wednesday morning. According to authorities, the incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. near the Brightline station, on Northwest First Avenue and Sixth Street.
Police said someone called 911 to report that a woman had been shot in the legs.
Officers and Miami Fire Rescue workers arrived to the site, and the woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Her condition has not been published.
Police claimed that when they were laying up crime scene tape in the neighborhood, they discovered a male who had also been shot.
He was pronounced dead on the scene.
“We have no clues on who fired at them. “We did find casings on the scene,” Officer Mike Vega stated.
According to police, the incident occurred at a homeless campsite.
“What a wonderful man, buddy. James Blum, who knew the dead victim, described her as a very respectable and sociable person. “I am not sure why something like that would happen. He was really outgoing. He was a terrific person, buddy. “He would give the shirt off his back if he had to.”
While authorities have not confirmed the circumstances regarding what caused the shooting, Blum told Local 10 News what he believes happened.
“There was a hit out on his head because he owed somebody $1,000,” he told me.
While no firearms was recovered at the location, officers discovered shell casings.
Anyone who was in the vicinity between 4:45 and 5 a.m. is asked to contact the Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
