Six-vehicle Crash Causes Multiple Injuries, One Car Flips Over on I-29

Six persons were hurt in a six-vehicle crash in Harrison County late Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened on northbound Interstate 29 around the 80-mile marker soon before 4:15 p.m., while motorists were slowing and merging into the fast lane due to a previous accident in the east ditch.

According to authorities, one of the vehicles came to a near stop after being rear-ended by another. The incident triggered a chain reaction accident involving four more automobiles. One of the vehicles became airborne and crashed upside down in the median.

Jens Marttinen, 22, of Dassel, Minnesota, was flown to Nebraska Medicine by EMS, while 64-year-old Laurie Ann Stee of Gary, South Dakota, and 50-year-old Chad Cantrall of Altoona, Pennsylvania, were transported to CHI Health Missouri Valley by ambulance.

Two adolescent females, aged one and nine, were evacuated to Children’s Hospital in Omaha. A 16-year-old adolescent guy was taken by EMS to CHI Health Missouri Valley.

The patrol said the accident is still being investigated.
