Crash on I-15 Leaves 3 Injured, Utah Man Charged With DUI and Negligent Driving

A 69-year-old Utah man is now facing multiple charges after investigators claim he was involved in a crash on Interstate 15 while driving the wrong way. Hidajet Fajic was detained on Sunday.

According to court filings, Utah Highway Patrol Troopers responded to a collision involving a wrong-way vehicle on Interstate 15. When troopers arrived, they saw a white Hyundai Elantra blocking both the HOV lane and the left lane of the freeway.

Witnesses reported that the Elantra was travelling north in the southbound lanes when it collided with another vehicle in the HOV lane.

When troopers spoke with Fajic, they reported that he had glossy, bloodshot eyes and a distinct alcohol odour on his breath. Officials sought to contact with Fajic via Google Translate but encountered difficulties. A partial preliminary breath test detected alcohol.

Two occupants of the other vehicle involved in the incident, as well as Fajic, were brought to the hospital. At the hospital, officers were able to have Fajic do a blood test. Officers say Fajic confirmed to them that he had consumed whisky before driving.

Hidajet Fajic is charged with driving under the influence, driving on the wrong side of the road, and negligently operating a vehicle resulting in injury.
