Passenger Hospitalized, Driver Dead After Collision With Semi Near Portland Bridge

On Monday evening, U.S. 30 was closed on the west side of the St. John’s Bridge following a fatal incident. Officials expected the crash to endure several hours.

A woman died after her car collided with the back of a semi-truck near the intersection of Northwest St. Helens Road and Northwest Bridge Avenue. Officers arrived to find an automobile had collided with the back of a semi-trailer that had stopped or was slowing.

Both the driver and the passenger in the car were sent to a nearby hospital with significant injuries. Police later confirmed that the driver died at the hospital.

According to police, the driver of the semi remained at the scene and is working with authorities.

Northwest St. Helens Road is closed in both directions about north of Northwest Bridge Avenue. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

According to ODOT, U.S. 30 is closed on the west side of the St. John’s Bridge as a result of the incident.
