One woman was sent to the hospital, and a Detroit fireman was placed on unpaid leave after a fire vehicle was involved in an accident Wednesday morning.
The tragedy occurred this morning at 9:15 a.m., while a team was responding to a fire on Richton Street in Detroit.
Local 4 has been informed that lights and sirens were activated at least. However, the investigation into what caused the collision is a primary priority.
“The Fire Department. We want to reply in the quickest and safest way possible. And, while accidents may occur from time to time, our drivers are generally quite experienced. “They’re extremely cautious,” said Detroit Executive Fire Commissioner Charles Simms.
According to Simms, the accident on Wednesday morning (June 11) near Chicago Boulevard and Dexter Avenue is unusual for today.
“Do not be shocked by this. We respond to around 400 emergency calls per day, so just looking at the percentages, it isn’t that common,” Simms said.
While accidents involving Detroit fire engines are down 20% from the same period previous year, in this case, just the engine driver and a passenger in another car are harmed.
Investigators are now working to identify what caused the crash.
“It’s still being investigated. “I don’t want to assume anything until I have all of the facts,” Simms remarked.
The firefighter behind the wheel is currently on unpaid leave pending the result of the investigation.
“Once we get the facts down, we’ll respond appropriately,” Simms promised.
The injured woman is expected to be released soon.
