Two people were injured in a single-vehicle accident on I-55 in New Madrid County on Monday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred on June 9 at 11:25 p.m. on I-55 in the northbound lanes near the 40.6-mile marker.
According to state police, a 26-year-old was driving a 2025 Toyota Camry north when it drove off the road, collided with an embankment, and then hit a cable barrier on the eastern outer road. A 38-year-old female passenger was also in the vehicle when it crashed.
The driver was reported to have critical injuries and flown to Region One in Memphis for treatment. The passenger was treated at St. Francis Medical Centre in Cape Girardeau after suffering minor injuries.
According to state police, the motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
