A suspected stolen vehicle chase resulted in a horrific crash overnight on the city’s northwest side, killing one and badly injuring three others.
It came to an end around 5:19 a.m. in the 10500 block of Huebner Road near Fredericksburg Road.
According to San Antonio Police, officers were already on the site collecting a separate stolen vehicle when a group of suspects approached them in another stolen vehicles.
According to authorities, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Officers said they’ve been dealing with people driving up to patrol cars, pointing firearms, and attempting to run them off the road for about a week.
While it is unknown whether this group is involved in past events, cops chased the accused this time.
The brief chase began, but investigators say they lost track of the stolen vehicle around Blanco and Huebner. That’s when SAPD’s Eagle helicopter team was dispatched to assist in tracking the vehicle.
Soon later, authorities claim they observed the suspects again, this time moving at a high pace. Moments thereafter, the motorist lost control around Fredericksburg and Huebner, crashing.
All four people in the automobile, who were described as being in their late teens to early twenties, were evacuated.
One suspect died on the spot. The remaining three were transported to a neighboring hospital, with one suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Police said the investigation is still ongoing, and they are attempting to ascertain whether this gang is linked to the recent spate of encounters involving stolen automobiles and armed suspects targeting police units.
