2 Denton County Residents Arrested in $1M Organized Theft Ring, $636K in Cash Seized

Two Denton County residents face organized crime charges following an investigation in which state and local police say they recovered $1 million in stolen property and seized $636,000 in cash.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigations Division, Neeraj Singh Kanyal, 36, and Ankita Kanyal, 31, both of Oak Point, were arrested and charged with felony engaging in organized crime and felony theft of property. Ankita Kanyal is also facing charges of interfering with public duties.

Ankita and Neeraj Kanyal are being held in the Denton County Jail on $20,000 bonds. Ankita will be required to post an additional $500 bond for the interfering charge. It is unclear whether either has retained an attorney to speak on their behalf.

State police did not elaborate on what prompted the investigation or provide a list of the items recovered. DPS officials stated that the investigation was ongoing and that no new information was available.

DPS officials confirmed that a collaboration between retailers and multiple police departments resulted in the arrests and recovery of approximately $1 million in stolen merchandise and $636,000 in cash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said they collaborated with retailers and several local police and sheriff’s offices on the investigation, including Allen, Irving, Oak Point, and Plano officers, as well as the Denton County Sheriff’s Office.
