A South Florida family who was told their dog had died four years ago is overjoyed after finding the dog at a local shelter.
The dog is terminally ill, and the family would like to know where she has been all this time.
Albania Sagarra and her dog Sugar were reunited, prompting hugs and tears.
Sagarra never imagined she’d see her maltipoo again.
“I’m just very happy and soaking up every moment with Sugar because this is like a resurrection I would have never imagined,” she told me.
In 2021, the puppy escaped from a Miami neighborhood.
A desperate search and a $1,000 reward yielded nothing but a story that Sugar had been killed.
Sagarra stated that a man called the number on the flyer and shared an interesting story with the family.
“He said that he witnessed her get run over by a car going about 70 to 80 miles an hour,” Sagarra told me.
The family was devastated to learn that their beloved Sugar had died.
But she wasn’t.
“I looked at her and I couldn’t even believe it was her, because for four years we thought she was dead,” recalled Sagarra.
They were perplexed by the story from the random man four years ago, and now Sagarra fears Sugar has been kidnapped and neglected.
Their mischievous, playful pup is no longer the same. She is very ill and underweight.
“She has stage four heart disease and stage four kidney disease along with a million other things,” Sagarra informed me.
They don’t know how long they’ll have Sugar – it could be weeks or months – but she’ll spend her final days with a loving family.
“She’s back where she belongs and I’m happy that at least the remainder of her days she’ll be with her family,” Sagarra told me.
The family wants to know who abandoned Sugar at the shelter. They said she was simply left outside the building.
They intend to look into it soon, but for the time being, they are focused on nursing her back to health.
