A fiery crash involving a box truck closed Interstate 70 for several hours Thursday morning. The highway has now reopened.
The crash was first reported around 5:45 a.m. on Thursday near Wright City. The highway’s two lanes were closed in the area until around 8:30 p.m.
As of 9 a.m., video from MoDOT traffic cameras showed traffic moving through the area.
Foristell Police Chief Douglas Johnson stated that a couple in their 70s was driving their RV in the area when the vehicle began to lose control. The vehicle collided with a barrier and flipped, eventually coming to rest on the road. According to Johnson, a box truck struck the RV, causing a fire.
Johnson stated that the couple was able to escape the RV with minor injuries. Their dog was killed in the crash.
The couple was traveling from Kansas to New Jersey at the time of the collision. Johnson stated that once they are released from the hospital, they plan to rent a car to continue their trip.
