Semi-truck Hits Elk on I-80, Causing Tanker to Flip Onto Car and Critically Injure Driver

During a collision in Summit County, a small tanker carrying oil fell on top of a vehicle involved in the collision, causing one person to be in critical condition.

According to Lieutenant Cam Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol, an elk was struck by a semi-truck that was traveling westbound on Interstate 80 on Thursday. The collision resulted in the tanker flipping over onto a car behind it.

According to Roden, the driver of that vehicle was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being transported there. It was reported that the driver of the semi truck sustained moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital.

As a result of the collision, oil spilled onto the roadway, which resulted in the closure of westbound Interstate 80 and the redirection of traffic onto United States Route 40.

Following the collision with the semi-truck, Roden claims that a second vehicle also collided with the elk.
