According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 7800 block of Stanley Road around 10:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a potential shooting.
When deputies arrived, Deputy Dalton Swanger was struck with a large rock or brick by the alleged suspect, 44-year-old Christopher Michael Hensley. After allegedly hitting the deputy, the suspect fled the scene, but was apprehended shortly after 6 a.m. on Sunday.
He is charged with the following: attempted second-degree murder.
- Aggravated assault against a first responder
- Domestic assault
- Possession of a firearm to go armed
Swanger was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in critical condition after being charged with manufacturing, delivering, selling, or possessing controlled substances, according to KCSO.
The sheriff’s office reported that Deputy Swanger was still in the Intensive Care Unit on Sunday morning.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Swanger and his family during this challenging time,” Spangler told reporters. I’m at the hospital with Deputy Swanger and asking our community to do what they do best: pray!”
Blue Line Tennessee has established a GoFundMe page to assist Swanger and his family “to help alleviate the financial burden of medical costs, rehabilitation, and unforeseen expenses.”
