25-year-old Woman Killed After Car Slams Into Bridge on I-95 in Robeson County

A 25-year-old woman was killed Thursday afternoon in an accident on I-95 South in Robeson County.

According to First Sgt. S.B. Lewis of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the vehicle was “driven at a high rate of speed, onto the median, and around slower traffic.”

Lewis went on to say that the motorist overcorrected when attempting to re-enter the roadway, slid over both southbound lanes of I-95, and then went off the road and into the bridge.

Following the collision with the bridge, the car came to rest on the southbound shoulder of the road, according to Lewis.

He identified the driver of the vehicle as Kayanna Gracia Adelle McCallum of Rowland.

There were no passengers in the vehicle.

Due to the possibility of bridge damage from contact, bridge maintenance was called to the scene and inspected it to assure safety, according to Lewis.

He also stated that the bridge was confirmed to be safe for travel.
