Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) raged on Friday against those urging that Congress authorize further military aid to Ukraine, claiming that it is equivalent to “paying for the slaughter and murder” of Ukrainian soldiers.
“This whole thing is the most repulsive, disgusting thing happening, and the American people are the ones writing the check,” the Georgia Republican told former White House strategist Steve Bannon on his “War Room” podcast.
“I absolutely hate everybody here that is doing this,” she said. “I seriously hate them for doing this.”
Greene said her “stomach flipped” at the prospect of providing Ukraine with President Biden’s $60 billion emergency funding request, and she predicted that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) — whom she has threatened to remove from his position — would eventually find a way to pass the measure.
“Everybody should be demanding that the Republican-elected speaker of the House stop listening to the garbage and lies that he’s being told and do the right thing,” Greene added, claiming that the $60 billion would be better spent on US border security.
The congresswoman stated that “amputees” and “injured soldiers” are being deployed to the front lines of Ukraine’s conflict with Russia because Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is being pressured by US legislators to continue fighting.
“America is breathing down their throats and saying, ‘You must continue to fight and we’re going to pay for it and force you to do it,'” Bannon was quoted as saying by Greene.
The Republican firebrand also discounted claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to invade other European countries and questioned why the Biden administration is so eager to provide military backing to a non-NATO country.
“That is the only country that — for some weird, sick, and evil reason — that they care about,” he continued.
“They don’t care about you at home.”
For over two months, the House has failed to enact a $95 billion national security plan authorized by the Senate, which includes funds for Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific area.
Greene has warned Johnson that a vote on Ukraine aid might prompt her to launch a motion to vacate, the same parliamentary mechanism that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) used to remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) last October.
The previous US aid package to Ukraine was sent in March, consisting of approximately $300 million in military materiel from existing US stocks.
