Albany man accused of stealing car

An Albany man is accused of stealing a car.

Deputies stopped James R. Schmidt, 47, in the village of Ravena just after 12:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11. Schmidt had made an illegal turn through a red light and the car did not have any license plates, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

Schmidt allegedly stole the car from a business parking lot less than a mile away, police said.

Schmidt was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and aggravated unlicensed operator. He was held pending arraignment at Albany County Jail.
