Nurses union to reject Albany Med contract

Albany Medical Center’s final contract offer will be turned down by the union that represents its nurses.

Its last, best, and final offer for a contract was made by Dr. Dennis McKenna. For around six months, the nurses had been without a contract. He threatened to remove retroactive compensation from the table if they didn’t agree to the arrangement by Monday at 5 p.m.

At 4:05 p.m., the New York State Nurses Association sent the following statement in response to a question about whether they would accept the offer.

Albany Med nurses will not be coerced into complying with Dr. McKenna’s alleged ultimatum regarding his final offer. To ensure safe personnel, equitable pay and benefits, and a union voice, it falls far short. Nurses want to quickly settle a fair contract that safeguards patient care. Our patients continue to wait too long for care, and we continue to have a shortage of staff. We insist that Albany Med management put an end to the gimmicks and negotiate a just contract that this community’s nurses and patients deserve.

Albany Medical Center has been contacted by NewsChannel 13 for comment. When we receive a response, we will notify you.
