Thedailymiaminews– The three brothers, Oren, Alon, and Tal Alexander, were denied bail in a courtroom in Manhattan on Wednesday. The judge decided that the three brothers posed a threat to the community and had the potential to flee the country while they were awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking.
“The weight of the evidence is strong,” said Judge Valerie E. Caproni of the Federal District Court after a three-hour hearing in which the attorneys for the brothers attempted to undermine the government’s argument for detention by suggesting that the dozens of women who have accused them of assault were fabricating stories for the purpose of making a profit.
Through their respective legal representatives, the three brothers have vehemently refuted the allegations. Over the course of several decades, Oren and Tal Alexander were two of the most notable real estate agents in the United States. They were responsible for brokering some of the most prestigious properties in Miami and New York. In addition to his brothers, Alon Alexander, who is Oren’s twin brother, was a well-known figure on the social scene in both of the cities.
Although the court accepted that there was a chance of some false claims, she referenced the assertion made by the government that more than forty women had made allegations that were comparable to those that were made. “And there is a consistency in the detail about how they are lured into areas under the control of the defendants, and then drugged and assaulted,” she added. “But the details are inconsistent.”
After months of escalating public allegations, Oren and Alon Alexander, who are twins and are 37 years old, were detained in Miami Beach in December along with their older brother, Tal Alexander, who is 38 years old. Also arrested was their older brother. According to an indictment that was made public on the day that all three of them were arrested, they are accused of exploiting their wealth and rank to entice, drug, and sexually abuse a large number of women.
At the hearing that took place on Wednesday, a prosecutor disclosed that several of the accused victims were juveniles at the time of the assaults and rapes, while the brothers were all adults at the time of those incidents.
Following the waiver of their right to be present at the hearing that took place on Wednesday in Manhattan, where Tal Alexander and Alon Alexander were separately appealing the refusal of bail by a federal judge in Miami earlier this month, the three brothers continue to be held in federal prison in Florida instead of being released.
Judge Caproni stated that the three individuals were scheduled to make their initial court appearances before her on January 29. She also stated that they were anticipated to be brought to Manhattan after the following week.
Oren and Tal Alexander, who are well-known for their ability to broker deals worth multiple millions of dollars in New York and Miami, rose to the top of the ranks at Douglas Elliman, which is one of the leading brokerages in the United States. Their assistance was important in the transaction of a nearly $240 million penthouse in Manhattan in 2019, which was the most expensive residential sale in the history of the United States at the time. After some time, they established their very own real estate brokerage, which they called Official. The family’s private security company is run by Alon Alexander, who has a position of executive.
Despite the fact that the men’s attorneys asked for their release on a bail of more than $115 million and a kind of home detention with private security guards to keep them from fleeing, Judge Caproni denied their pleas.
“The defendants argue that danger and risk of flight can be mitigated because they have the wealth to create, in essence, a private prison outside of the Bureau of Prisons,” Judge Caproni said. “The defendants have that wealth.”
She explained that such a kind of arrangement would be equivalent to a two-tiered system, in which affluent inmates would be released before to their trials while others would continue to be held in custody. “I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck,” the judge added, adding that what the attorneys were suggesting was a jail that was publicly supported but privately privately funded.
She referred to a previous decision made by the court that restricted the use of such agreements. As she read from the opinion, she stated that it was a “fundamental principle of fairness” that the law protects the interests of both wealthy and impoverished criminals in equal measure, and that its hand extends as far as it can to each.
Each of the three brothers is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking, as well as a separate count of the sex trafficking of one lady through the use of force, deception, and coercion. The indictment was filed against that trio. Only as Victim-2 was she named in the indictment that was filed against her. Additional charges were brought against Tal Alexander for the sex trafficking of a second victim, who was referred to as Victim-1.
It is stated in the indictment that the defendants “physically restrained and held down their victims during the rapes and sexual assaults and ignored screams and explicit requests to stop.” Furthermore, the indictment states that the defendants did this at times. In addition, it is stated that the brothers provided the ladies with drugs, such as cocaine, psilocybin, and GHB, which is a drug that is considered a date-rape drug because it causes the victim to lose consciousness and memory.
In a statement released on Wednesday, a federal prosecutor named Andrew Jones stated that the government had conducted interviews with over forty women who have accused the brothers of committing sexual assault or rape. These allegations date back twenty years. at addition, he stated that the government had obtained video evidence, which was discovered on a computer hard drive at Tal Alexander’s residence in New York. The video evidence showed many women engaging in sexual acts with the brothers while they were visibly intoxicated or incapable of doing so.
The office of the United States Attorney for the District of Manhattan stated in a letter that was recently sent to Judge Caproni that in certain instances, at least one of the brothers and another man physically manipulated the bodies of those ladies in order to have sexual relations with them.
