According to a press release from Representative Dave Paul (D-Oak Harbor), a plan to make it easier for Washington high school students to earn college credit has passed the Washington state House of Representatives.
House Bill 1146 mandates that public high schools inform students and families about dual enrollment programs such as Running Start and College in the High School.
“Dual credit programs give high school students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit at the same time,” said Rep. Paul, the bill’s sponsor. “This gives students a running start to life after high school as well as reduces student debt.”
On Thursday, Jan. 11, the law was passed unanimously by the House by a vote of 97-0. It will now be considered by the Senate.
The bill was originally introduced in the House in 2019, where it was passed by a vote of 96-0, but it was not passed by the Senate.
