Police are looking for the criminals who stole a 200-foot tower in Alabama and turned off a local AM radio station.
The general manager of WJLX, the radio station where the tower was stolen, stated that he discovered the theft on February 2 when a maintenance crew arrived to clean up the property, “only to find it completely cleared out by the thieves.”
“I’ve spent the weekend trying to make sense of everything, but I just can’t. I’ve been in the radio business my entire life and have never heard of anything like this. “I thought I’d seen it all,” Brett Elmore stated.
“When he called me on Friday and said, ‘the tower is gone,’ I couldn’t believe it. I questioned if he was certain he was in the proper place. He said, “The tower is gone.” “Wires are scattered everywhere,” Elmore remembered.
The station requested authorization from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to remain on FM air while rebuilding its AM radio operations, but the FCC denied their request.
“This is a big setback for a tiny organization like ours, but I am confident that we will find the offenders. Elmore stated, “This is a federal crime, and they will realize it wasn’t worth it.”
The station has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with rebuilding. Police are conducting an investigation.
