On Iowa caucus weekend, presidential candidates aren’t the only ones working hard.
On Sunday, the political comedy group “The Good Liars” interrupted a rally by GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy in Ankeny, Iowa, a day after attempting to present Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis a “participation trophy.”
It’s unclear what Jason Selvig and Davram Stiefler, the duo, told the entrepreneur. However, in the video, Stiefler says, “I love you.” That’s the thing about me: I adore everyone.”
Ramaswamy motioned for the couple to take a seat and wait their turn to speak. He went on to say that they were allowed to stay if they followed “our norms,” but that if they didn’t, they should “get the hell out.”
“You want to let these people know what you think of them,” Ramaswamy stated as the crowd booed and security led the two out of the event. “This is why we need to eliminate super PACs from American politics.” Put a stop to super PACs and corruption. We’ve had enough of it. The other candidates are under jeopardy.”
‘A participation trophy’ was presented to Ron DeSantis by a group
Selvig and Stiefler tried to offer DeSantis a “participation trophy” during a campaign event in Atlantic, Iowa and informed him he would not be president. The video of the awkward incident and the audience’s seemingly nervous laughter quickly went viral.
“Really quickly before we get started, thank you everyone,” Stiefler remarked, capturing the attention of the audience. “Governor DeSantis, I want to present to you this participation trophy.”
“Now, you’re probably not going to win the election, right?” “But we’re proud of you for attempting,” he replied, clapping DeSantis on the arm. “He’s special, he’s unique, and he’s our little snowflake.”
DeSantis flatly refused to accept the prize. Stiefler was later escorted from the event while carrying the prize, with a security guard on each arm.
The Good Liars did not respond to a request for comment from USA TODAY.
“The Good Liars,” which began producing content in 2011, is known for trolling politicians at political gatherings. Stiefler addressed President Biden, then a contender, in Iowa in October 2020 while wearing a “Settle For Biden” T-shirt.
Previous protester interruptions of Ramaswamy
Ramaswamy has already dealt with a number of protestor clashes in the last week.
Protesters from the climate revolution group Sunrise Movement were removed from a Ramaswamy event in the Iowa State Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday.
More Protesters from the Sunrise Movement appeared in West Des Moines on Friday night during Ramaswamy’s address and were removed three times.
