Thedailymiaminews (INDIANAPOLIS) — A man is being charged with allegedly attacking a woman at a service station in north Indianapolis.
The frightening incident was recorded on video near the intersection of 56th and Emerson Avenue on Tuesday, shortly before 4:30 p.m.
The footage shows a man holding a gun to a woman’s head while she attempts to escape. At one point in the video, he walks away and then points the gun at her.
Kevin Edwards, who saw the argument and filmed the footage, stated, “There was so much for me to think about, but that bullet was my main worry.”
In the footage, Edwards stated that the guy and lady can be seen engaging one other after the man honked at the woman multiple times while she was sitting at a gas pump that was not working.
The male said that the woman exited her vehicle and aimed a gun at him, but she disputes this allegation, according to the records filed with the court.
Edwards added, “They were arguing, and he started calling her racial slurs. She probably didn’t like that and probably wasn’t comfortable with it, but that’s when he pulled out the gun and, as you can see in the video, he’s choking her against the car.”
The man acknowledges in the court filings that he warned the woman he was going to “blow her head off” when he spoke to the police.
IMPD Officer Tommy Thompson stated, “The fear of having a firearm placed in your face, at your head, and words uttered in which a threat is made, that’s inexcusable and that’s scary and life altering for this victim.”
According to Thompson, this is a perfect example of people not using their words to resolve issues.
“We, as adults, have to do better. We, as a society, need to improve. He stated, “We cannot resort to conflict resolution that yields a firearm to solve a problem.”
According to Thompson, as arguments become more intense, the best thing to do is to step away and take a moment to breathe.
The man in the video has been arrested for a number of crimes, including intimidation with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon, strangling, criminal recklessness, battery resulting in harm, and pointing a loaded pistol.
There have been no formal charges made against them.
