Community Leader Fatally Shot While Trying to Mediate Detroit Park Dispute

On May 25, a violent confrontation occurred at Jayne Park on the Detroit-Hamtramck border, killing one man and injuring three more. The family of Abdul Ahad, 24, is now looking for answers and justice after he was fatally shot while purportedly attempting to mediate a quarrel.

According to family and friends, Ahad was a community leader and mediator who knew everyone in the local Bangladeshi community. That’s why he traveled to Jayne Park with a friend that night to resolve a fender bender issue.

“Very little car accident, and it wasn’t even that day; it happened a few weeks ago and wasn’t even his fault. “He had just gone to speak with them and settle the dispute,” Ahad’s close friend MD Hussain claimed. “For that to lead to what it led to, is just really shocking, unbelievable.”

Ahad’s brother, Mohammad Samad, claims Ahad’s companion was involved in a minor car accident a few weeks prior to the tragedy. It was decided that the two parties would meet to resolve the damages. Abdul, according to his family, was following along to help.

“He knew a lot of individuals in the neighbourhood. I believed he went because he thought he’d know people on both sides and could settle things down,” Samad explained.

Things deteriorated and turned violent between the two parties during the meeting for unknown reasons. One person was ran over, one was stabbed, and two others, including Abdul, were shot.
