25-year-old Woman Dies in Early Morning Collision on I-75 in Whitfield County

A Dalton lady died in a two-vehicle crash on I-75 northbound early Friday morning.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) reported that troopers responded to the incident near mile marker 331 in Whitfield County at 6:44 a.m. on June 20, 2025.

A preliminary inquiry revealed that a 73-year-old man from Kansas City, Missouri, was driving a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee north in the left lane.

At the same time, a 25-year-old Dalton woman drove a 2001 Toyota Tacoma north in the right lane.

Both vehicles attempted to merge into the central lane.

The GDOT video shows the Toyota swerving right, then overcorrecting, into the path of the Jeep, which had returned to the left lane.

The Jeep collided with the Toyota, striking its left rear side.

The hit caused the Toyota to spin counterclockwise and overturn.

The Toyota landed on its roof and collided with the median guardrail.

Both vehicles came to a stop in the left emergency lane, with the Jeep’s front wheels resting on top of the flipped Toyota.

The Toyota driver, later named as Jocelyn Gutierrez, was pronounced dead on the spot.

All northbound lanes were restricted from 7:10 a.m. until 9:18 a.m. while crews cleared the site and investigated the accident.
