A mother and father were arrested after their nine-year-old daughter tested positive for cannabis.
Tyler Lindsey and Megan Wilson were charged on Tuesday in Delaware County with one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in physical injury, a Level 5 felony, as well as a misdemeanor drug charge.
On March 19, a deputy from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a local hospital in response to a report of possible child abuse or neglect. When the deputy arrived at the hospital, he discovered that a 9-year-old girl had tested positive for cannabis after being rushed to the emergency room “on account of her lethargic state.”
In an interview, the girl’s mother, Wilson, stated that the youngster woke up to go to school and was “acting normal.” Later that day, Wilson picked up the girl from school after she complained of a headache and a rash on her left arm.
The toddler awoke “extremely groggy and lethargic” after taking a nap. This prompted Wilson to transport her to a nearby hospital. The girl was later taken to an Indianapolis children’s hospital after being reported in “critical but stable” condition.
During her interview, Wilson stated that there were THC cartridges and edible THC gummies in the home. However, Wilson noted that she “found it unlikely” that the child swallowed cannabis from their house and suggested that the child may have been fed anything at school.
Lindsey informed police that his cartridges were “almost hidden underneath his side of his bed,” which he does not believe the youngster would have gotten into. Lindsey also stated that there were edibles in his room, but he kept them hidden in a drawer.
When authorities investigated the house, they reportedly discovered cartridges and edibles.
Lindsey and Wilson’s initial hearing is set for July 10, according to court records.
