Pittsfield Fire Department investigating three separate fires

The Pittsfield Fire Department is thanking surrounding agencies for their help, after dealing with three fire scenes all at the same time.

The first call came into the fire department about a fire alarm on Holmes Road. Several crews were quickly dispatched to that scene.

At the same time, firefighters got a call about an out-of-control brush fire on Scammell Avenue. Crews were concerned about the flames reaching nearby houses.

When fire crews got there, they found flames at both 8 and 10 Scammell Avenue.

There was also fire at 12 Scammell Avenue, and a large brush fire extending up the hillside behind the homes, reaching property on Draper Avenue.

We are told two families are now out of their homes after the fire.

Flames also extended to Draper Avenue and caused several hot spots in the dry wooded area.

The cause of these fires is under investigation.

The American Red Cross is helping the people affected.
