Family members are looking for answers after a loved one was discovered injured.
Janet Bowen, 78, is fighting for her life at Jackson South Medical Center.
According to hospital photos, she has extensive injuries, including a severe brain bleed.
Her family is trying to determine what happened to her.
They say someone noticed her laying on the ground near her home, which is near Southwest 147th Avenue and 174th Street, and called 911 Friday morning.
Her family believes she was hit by a car that left her.
“She left her house, walked to Publix, and was on her way back when she was hit,” said Bowen’s niece, Jillian Thomas.
Thomas said the family discovered groceries and Bowen’s missing shoe in the grass.
Thomas is devastated; she describes Bowen as a God-fearing woman who loves to travel and is generous and kind.
“She’s always with the family,” she said. “We adore our aunt to death. She’s extremely close. “Our family is very close.”
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office stated that detectives are investigating whether the incident was an accident or a hit-and-run.
Bowen’s family believes someone witnessed something because the incident occurred in the morning on a busy road.
They are urging anyone with even the smallest amount of information to come forward.
