TULSA, Okla – Tulsa Police responded to a report of a shooting around 56th Street and Harvard Avenue.
When police arrived at the site, they discovered a jogger with a gunshot wound to his leg. The jogger informed police they had no idea who fired at them.
As police and other first responders sought to provide first aid to the jogger, the suspect came from behind a Tulsa fire truck and opened fire on them.
Police defended, and the suspect fled the scene in his car.
Police said they tracked the guy southeast from 56th Street and Harvard Avenue to 58th Street and Delaware Avenue. The guy pulled into a cul-de-sac and exited his car to engage police again.
The suspect was shot and died on the scene. Police stated his motive is unknown, and they are investigating further.
The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave while Tulsa Police conducts an investigation and turns over its findings to the District Attorney’s Office, which will evaluate whether the shooting was justified.
Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg described the scenario as “chaotic and unusual” and expressed relief that no first responders were hurt.
