A guy shot his girlfriend and her 10-year-old daughter before killing himself in a Hamilton Township, New Jersey, home, authorities said Thursday.
According to Mercer County law enforcement officials, officers arrived to a home on the 200 block of Henry Street in Hamilton Township at 4 a.m. on Thursday to find a lady and her 10-year-old daughter with gunshot wounds.
According to police, the duo was pronounced dead at the scene.
Also discovered in the residence was the woman’s boyfriend, who authorities suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police suspect the boyfriend killed the woman and her child before shooting himself.
While authorities have not disclosed the victims’ names, a guy who identified himself as the young girl’s father told NBC10 that his daughter’s name was Evangelina.
“I will never forget one day I had a daughter,” Bladimir Velasquez told NBC10. “I can’t explain it. Unexpected. Not prepared to dominate the world. I normally am. But believe in God. So, God is going to provide and assist us.
Velasquez stated that Evangelina and her mother had lived on Henry Street for several years. He also stated that Evangelina’s mother had dated her lover for at least a year and had a child together.
“I was told that the boyfriend was a little bit jealous but nothing, never to my attention,” Velasquez recounted. “I wasn’t interfering.”
As Velasquez copes with the loss, he remembers his daughter as a girl who touched many people’s lives throughout her brief life on Earth.
“She was always strong. Strong. Positive. He said, “I’m thinking of someone else to help someone else.” “The first thing that astonished me a long time ago was that if she noticed someone in the street, she would lower her window to aid them. So I was shocked that she had that instinct.
Both the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Hamilton Police Department are still investigating the event.
