2 Men Dead After High-rise Stabbing in Miami’s Brickell Neighborhood, Police Warn Residents to Stay Vigilant

Police said two individuals died as a result of a stabbing on the 34th level of a Brickell high-rise building early Sunday morning.

The incident caused Miami Police Chief Manny Morales to caution residents to be careful and lock their homes in order to prevent crime, and he also stated that there was no threat to the public.

Miami Police said they were summoned to the Icon Residences at 485 Brickell Ave. about 2:16 a.m. on a complaint of a man being stabbed. They stated that when they came, they discovered that the man had died.

They also claimed that surveillance footage captured one man escaping, and that his body was located in a building under construction across the street. They have not revealed how he died or whether the two guys knew one other, but they have issued a caution to keep their doors secured and not open to strangers.

A SWAT team, a police drone, and K-9 units were all present, making for an extremely bustling scene. The two males have not been named.

“We have no idea why this happened, and that is part of the investigation because of what was leaked, and there was no party going on or a large group,” Miami Police spokesperson Ofc. Mike Vega told CBS News Miami. “It seems like whoever did just went into this apartment.”

“We are still looking for articles of interest, such as maybe a knife, a gun, any weapon or clothing,” according to him.

Morales issued a statement saying, “I want to assure the community that we are thoroughly investigating this tragic incident.” Our sympathies are with the victim’s loved ones at this sad time. We are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death. There is now no threat to public safety, and we advise everyone to remain attentive and take the required procedures to safeguard their houses on a regular basis in order to prevent crime and ensure their safety.

“It’s pretty scary coming to Miami, and you don’t expect things to happen in the same building,” Robert Roper, a 23rd-floor resident, told CBS News Miami. “I know many people were concerned about what was going on, and you can see a lot of cops here. They are canvassing the neighborhood, and there is plenty of security.”

“Apparently, there was a fight upstairs, and there was a trail of blood down the street to the other street and into a parking lot. He said, “It’s a little unsettling right now.” “Hopefully, it was something relative to them and not random.”

When asked about the advice to secure your doors and not open them to strangers, Roper answered, “That is right.”
