A woman died after being shoved into the Miami River this week by a man. According to police, Marie Roseme, 39, died on Thursday.
A 47-year-old homeless man named William Bill Youmans Jr. has been detained in connection with the crime.
He was arrested on Tuesday on a second-degree attempted murder charge, but that charge is anticipated to be enhanced now that Roseme has died.
According to authorities, Youmans was caught immediately after pushing Roseme into the Miami River during a heated dispute.
Roseme was discovered unconscious in the river and rescued by Miami Fire Rescue divers about 11:08 a.m. Tuesday, according to the report.
Authorities say she was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where she was first intubated and classified in critical condition.
According to Miami police, a youngster observed Roseme and Youmans’ disagreement develop before he reportedly pushed her into the river.
The adolescent, who was beneath the Southwest First Street Bridge across the river, dialed 911 and kept an eye on Youmans until police arrived.
Police claimed another witness saw the incident and confirmed the two were arguing and hurling objects at each other. The witness indicated that she frequently saw the victim in the park along 114 SW North River Drive, just west of downtown Miami.
Detectives stated that they later interviewed Youmans at the MPD Homicide Office, where they observed alarming behavior.
According to the police report, Youmans began screaming and striking walls, and at one point masturbated and ejaculated on the interview room table.
Because of his actions, officers ended the interrogation and arrested him on one count of second-degree attempted murder.
Authorities said they closed section of Southwest North River Drive as investigators gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses. They also confirmed that Youmans and Roseme knew each other, but did not elaborate on their relationship.
Youmans remained at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Friday afternoon, with his bond noted as “to be set.”
